WELCOME TO IHS!

Ionia High School has an accomplished history of academic and athletic achievements. Completed in 1989, our Ionia Educational Center campus is a winner of national recognition for design. We offer our over 800 students the best possible opportunities for academic and vocational training to ensure all of our students are prepared for post-high school success. Within our campus is:

The Ionia County Career Center, which offers courses in healthcare foundations, computer programming, construction technology, plant and animal science, and culinary arts with a full service restaurant for public use;
  • A Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) classroom with a FANUC robot, individual computer stations, and two 3D printers;
  • A swimming pool owned by the school district and operated by the YMCA staff trained in aquatics;
  • A three-court gymnasium that hosts athletic events as well as the Ionia Expo and Science Olympiad Tournaments.

Implementation of our School Improvement Plan's research-based strategies allow us to provide relevant, engaging, and individualized instruction within a safe learning environment. We have been fully accredited by the North Central Association Commission since 1906. In the fall of 2016, we earned accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission after an on-site review. We were recognized and commended for our Achievement Hour Tier 2 Intervention and for fostering a positive school environment.

The school spirit which energizes IHS is evident in extracurricular as well as athletics. Many of lonia's students participate in extracurricular activities, choosing from debate, forensics, Spanish Club, Science Olympiad, SADD, FFA, Quiz Bowl, Theatre, Student Council, National Honor Society and more. IHS athletic teams perform well in boys and girls basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, cross country, swimming, soccer, bowling, boys baseball, football, wrestling and girls softball, volleyball, cheer, dance and power lifting.

All students have access to enroll in Ionia High School's unique STEAM Pathway which consists of three elective courses that build upon each other in skill and sequence: Digital Design Technology (two semesters during 10th grade), FANUC Robotics Computer Programming (two semesters during 11th grade), and our STEAM Capstone (one semester during 12th grade). Through a hands-on engineering design process, our STEAM Pathway students will learn coding, program and manipulate FANUC robots, learn advanced automation, and collaborate with our STEAM business partners as they create and present solutions to real-world challenges. Students who complete our STEAM Pathway will earn the industry-recognized FANUC Robot Programmer and Operator Certification, an IHS STEAM certificate, and a STEAM cord at graduation.

Our high school, updated with extensive computer technology in 2008, consistently produces National Merit Scholars, successful students in higher education, and productive citizens in the world of work. Our community has provided well for our students and our students are returning the favor.
