Financial Aid
Financial Aid
Financial aid is a term used to describe any source of assistance that is awarded to help a student pay for their college expenses. These funds are generally based on financial need and include:
- Scholarships
- Grants
- Loans
- Employment
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to receive financial aid from colleges. The FAFSA becomes available for completion on October 1. Since a lot of financial aid is awarded on a “first-come, first-served“ basis, it is important to check financial aid requirements for each college to determine required application materials and deadlines. The State of Michigan deadline for filing for financial aid is March 1st.
*Note: You may file after March 1st, but your financial aid may be lower.

Students and parents are required to sign up for a FSA ID, made up of a username and password. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents.
